However, when you unplug your drive and plug it back again, the files and folders are no longer available. This is because the drive will save your files and folders as long as there is an electric current/voltage through the USB. It will however not hold the copied data when the USB electric current/voltage is lost. Check to see if the USB drive is listed in the devices. See if there's a yellow exclamation mark next to your flash drive in Device Manager. The yellow exclamation mark is an indicator that there is a problem with the driver. Right-click on the device to bring up its Properties window. Double click the MAC HDD 2. Double click Applications 3. Double Click Utilities 4. Select System Information 5. On the left side select USB. If you see Flash Drive listed under the USB hub the USB flash drive is detected properly. In case, your drive fails to show up on any other Mac machines then it seems like the problem lies within the ExFAT drive. It might be corrupted or became unreadable. Still don’t worry. You can bring back the corrupted ExFAT drive to normal state (working mode) by formatting/re-formatting it.
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder in your Applications. Select your Mac’s startup disk from the sidebar. If there are multiple disks, select the highest-level one. At the top of the window, click First Aid and confirm you want to run it. The temporary files will rebuild and your computer will crash again. Delete or copy enough files so you have at least 20GB free on your computer and keep it that way, or even more.
